I was thinking about this the other day, I've seen unboxing videos on youtube and some people get their SE535's in a square box, while some get it in a thinner, and "higher" package where you see the IEM's from the inside through clear plastic. Why is that?

The se535 have different packagings. So far, there is no fake se535s in the market.

The thinner and higher packaging is the Asian/Euro Shure SE535 Packaging while the square one is North American I believe.

It's always like that, my UE 500 I bought in Taiwan came in a high box with the clear see through plastic where as the north American one is classier and has foam to protect the earpiece,
