Hi

Need some advice please. Im after a new pair or earphones. Decided i want to experience the sound from the SE535 eaphones. My only concern is buying a fake pair from the internet. Has the SE535 been faked? My answer is YES! As you may or may not know, the shure se535 are manufactured in china. When anything gets manufactured in china, chances are that knockoff's are made using the same molds. Manufacturing isnt very tightly regulated and the country has hardly any copyright laws in place.

Looking on ebay i see many people selling used shure se535 earphones but majority of them dont come with any accessories. You would think earphones costing over £300, people would keep the accessories.

Doing further research i found this. You can buy shure se535 DIY kits from china and put in your own earphone speakers. This way people can get duped into buying a fake pair, which they would think they brought at a bargain price. Look at these links:

Someone posted this on a online forum:

What do you think?

ik for me, when i went to china, i was able to get a pair of shure 535 for $200 (remembering they cost around $500 right now)
how did i know they were legit? i originally had a pair of 315, so compairing them in the market was pretty good.
so basically, if they don't look legit, then they probably aren't legit.

I recently purchased a pair of SE 525s from another head fi'er and wasn't blown with the sound I was getting. Just compared them to a pair in the store and feel the ones in the store had richer bass and clearer highs. I paid using paypal. What do you guys think I should do?

Have you made sure the nozzle is clean? Additionally, are you using the same sleeves as the ones on display?

I usually give the seller 3 days. Things happen and sometimes they aren't able to respond. After that, you should just assume they're screwing you over and file a charge back. If they aren't responding then it only adds to your evidence.

Added to the list

I was intrigued by the "DIY" se535 versions you can find on Taobao but the prices were obscenely high to even consider them as a viable option, besides: who pays 200$ for fake IEMs? the only reason I could find is to resell them.

I highly suggest everyone to buy from authorized sources and if you're buying 2nd hand, ask for the box and accessories.

Anyway, If you find more headphones please write in the following thread

@roggae, not because you can find copies mean that yours are fake. Do you have complains about the sound, concerns about craftsmanship or the price was too good to be true? Do you have the box and the accessories? To give my example I don't keep receipts of all my purchases so asking for one might be problematic for some sellers.

Hi, do you think you can get fake SE535 special red edition in a box? Here in Spain I see a couple of guys selling those around 300 USD in their original unopened box. Unfortunately they are quite far away from me and I would have to pay before receiving and seeing the stuff. thanks Vlad

I wouldn't take the risk if I were you. Only buy from an authorized dealer unless you want to take the risk of buying a fake product or losing out on the warranty.
