I prefer a small concert over a mega sports stadium event. Just last year I was at a Cockney Rebel (Steve harley) concert...he was as good as ever...more fun per minute than any other artist I have seen up close. He would actually talk to the audience and stuff...pure mindless banter...just like his music

Freedom!!

Well, the cost of concerts really depends on the popularity the band has. I know that most underground metal acts NEED the money they get from show and especially shirts because the money they get from selling cds is far from being enough. A great metal band wanted to get good sound quality and good production, so they spent 10 000$ CAN for all the process of record, mixing the cd, and they were surprised to sell their first print (500 cds). They probably sold 800-1000 cds, and they earn something like 1$ per cd, if not less, which is far from breaking even on the money they had to spend for the cd recording process alone. They need the money they earn from shows and shirts to be able to loose a little less money. They need a day job because music isn't even enough to live, unless you own a label or work for labels and during shows. Music is a luxury for them, they loose money from this !

It's interesting to see that underground artist can record an album with a great sound quality for 10 000$ (spending less is possible though) while mainstream artists spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for the same thing !
