I can get a seagate 200 gig drive for 89 bucks

how do i make this a external 400 firewire drive?

I would think there are any number of vendors that have cases available. Try newegg.com, when I was shopping for an external hard drive, they seemed to have a decent selection of enclosures. I wish I had gone for a 200gb. My 120 is halfway full and I have plenty of cd's yet to burn.

I know they cost a bit more, but I'm happy with my 2 LaCie D2 drives.

You should be able to find firewire enclosures easily. Maybe try one of the Mac sites so you know that there won't be any compatibilty issues.

Where in the world do you find a $89 200 gig Seagate drive?!?! I want one!

As for your question: it should as long as it accepts IDE and accepts drives of your size.

I ordered a 200GB Seagate IDE drive from Buy.com for ~$103 shipped last week. The drive is now $3 more, so $116 and there is a $10 off coupon floating around. Not a bad price without having to deal with rebates. For those of you with Frys around you there are better deals though. And for those of you that haven't heard, all new internal Seagate drives come with a 5 year warranty.

As for the enclosure, the Plumax's seem to be good for the price. Make sure whatever you get has a fan so it doesn't overheat.
