Hey all,

I am looking for songs that have extended guitar solos. I find this type of music magical, because just when you think it's about to end, the guitarist does another riff. Not some 3-minute wimpy song with repeated choruses, there's enough of those already.

Some "popular" examples:

Maggot Brain,
Little Wing,
Down by the river,
21st century schizoid man (brass + guitars, but awesome)

I would continue this list but those are the ones I can remember the top of my head, and the point is, I want you to recommend some!

Thank you!!

P.S. Electric please, no metal

Edit: removed Kid Charlamagne, not sure why I put it up there though admittedly it has a nice solo in the middle.

Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow- Cause We've Ended As Lovers
Anders Buaas - The Witches Of Finnmark II - Cunningham
Pendragon - Love Over Fear - Water. Not too extended, but awesome!!
keep them coming!
cheers
Hey I appreciate the reply! Didn't know how active this forum category was. I agree, keep them coming! I feel like this type of music are few and far between, because it would take so much to practice, memorize, and perform, let alone being expected to perform live. The magic comes from the difficulty of the solos, for sure.

Look into the future, picked at random, was extremely good. I didn't know you could have so many drums and yet keep the guitar solo engaging.

I'll add these to the thread :
I never bother to listen to the first part of that song (or much of Dire Straits to be frank), but I regularly listen to the solo at the end (9:30 or so), which to me is the definition of "extended guitar solo at the end of a song" :

Another one, where the extended solo is longer than the rest of the song :

The Four Horsemen - I Need A Thrill / Somethin' Good. Pretty obscure band that I loved, I bought a Black Crowes Album and there was a Postcard of this band in the case so I bought it on a whim. I used to play this on the way to gigs / Festivals. I Need A Thrill leads into Somethin' Good at approximately 02:40 and then there's a swirling solo in the background that gradually makes it's way to the foreground :-

The band was beset by tragedy, you can read about it HERE
