Experienced Birkenstock Wearers...HELP

I'll preface this by saying that I am a Birkenstock owner.

Guys, this is gross - if the sandals smell so bad that you need to post on an internet bulleting board looking for odor solutions, it's time to throw in the towel. I understand they're comfortable, but if they're making you stink all the time it's just not worth it. Toss 'em.

Huh, interesting I didn't know there was a way to deal with this. I just resorted to wearing stocks with my stinkier/older pair. It works and is still comfy.

Quiet, you.

I once had a pair of running shoes that I wore without socks for an entire summer. I was a passenger for a long, 3 hour drive so I kicked the shoes off, and within about 5 minutes people were complaining about nausea.

I win the stink fight.

1) Wash and scrub them.  Get all the girt and grime out of the foot beads.
2) Let them dry out
3) Nuke them with hydrogen peroxide. This will kill all the bacteria.  Pour it on until it no longer fizzes anywhere.
4) Cover them in baking soda paste
5) Throw them in the freezer for 2+ days
6) Rinse off and let them dry

You should be solid

Hopefully he's successfully cleaned his birkenstocks in the 5 years since this thread was made...

That's what I always wonder when I see one of these necromanced threads.

Especially considering how miserable the search function is...

To get the stink out of my Tevas I soaked them in bleach water for a few hours, let them air dry and then put them in the freezer for a day. The freezer part is suppose to kill any bacteria the bleach doesn't get.

Here's a blurb on getting rid of Birkenstock stink.
