Recently got myself the A6 Master Edition, and just been mostly using it as a digital source. Has anyone had any issues with the updates not showing up when they do a force update? I had to manually update mine through USB for both v1.1.80 and v1.2.05. Are there any region restrictions for the updates?

South East Europe updates are coming via OTA fluently - I got mine (1.1.8 and 1.2.05) pretty fast after release and at one shot.

Very strange, I'm in SEA and I would have expected mine to be quick as well.

I received the Eversolo yesterday. So far I am enjoying it. I managed to connect it via 7.1CH inputs of the Marantz and I can confirm that it is running analog or at least I can clearly differentiate the DAC of the Eversolo compared to the DAC of the Marantz (eg using HEOS)

How are you finding the DAC sound? Compared to my modest Marantz AVR that has an AKM 4458, the Eversolo sounds much more detailed, open, wider, better separation of instruments clearly. However, it is less pleasant, I find myself turning down the volume gradually, while with the Marantz, which is darker, less detailed, but sweeter and warmer (I know these words are forbidden but anyway) I use to turn up the volume. I am using the Minimum phase slow roll-off filter on the Eversolo, which is the smoothest filter

I would dare to say that if the Eversolo didn’t have this gorgeous screen, I would be returning it. I will decide in the coming days if it is a keeper

I would say, the built-in DAC in the Eversolo is a decent delta/sigma DAC for the money. It is detailed and technical enough for the price, but it is a few-hundred-dollar delta/sigma DAC at the end of the day which means a bit of a sterile and plasticky texture with not much soundstage depth. I bought my A6 as a streaming only device feeding my R2R DAC and for that it is perfect. The cleanest sounding streamer I have heard so far, but I need my R2R DAC to bring the sound to life.

But if I add an external dac, via SPDIF, I would lose MQA, right?

You are right, it supports MQA over optical/coaxial. But as you, I am starting to not care about MQA

Have you heard the Topping E70 Velvet. I use to like AKM more than Sabre dacs, and this has the top 4499EX
I haven't heard the E70 or any new 4499EX DACs. As a rule of thumb, I also used to like Burr-Brown or AKM as opposed to Sabre based devices, but since I tasted proper R2R I can't go back to d/s.

For me I was using a dedicated source and a standalone DAC before switching to the Eversolo. If you’re a sonic purist I would still recommend this approach. For me I replaced that chain with the Eversolo and sold my old preamp and dac online and paid off some bills and still had money leftover when I got the Eversolo. Typically this unit sounds better than most of the entry level Asian Sabre based designs you can find online for sale. The thing I like most about it is that it neatly replaced gear I wasn’t exactly happy with and gave me an all in one unit. In many ways it’s almost like having a stereo computer having the Eversolo since it can do a variety of things and mount Samba shares into the music library. Considering it can do this it really simplified me getting up from the couch and going to my dac to switch sources manually and the dac works well enough where I wasn’t concerned enough about having a dedicated source, dac, preamp. I think that’s the selling point of this unit although a standalone source with a standalone dac if they’re quality will likely sound better. Retraining your ear from one dac to another is not a fun process and I’ve been though it a few times it’s just a slower process. I found with testing that the dac on the Eversolo for some reason sounded best with Roon and the source. But because it can accept other inputs from say a tv and having the streaming music services built into it the evesolo sort of makes Roon unnecessary. I also found that although it was not listed in the release notes for the latest firmware it does sound slightly cleaner on this update for all inputs and sources.

Just to agree with your last point, that the DMP-A6 sounds to me just a touch better with the last firmwares, as you say a bit cleaner.
