an rca 6080 at the rear and the front one is a 6h8c but no clue on manufacturerOuch! Sorry to hear about that damage!
What kind of tubes did you get stock? Wieslaw indeed does provide more than decent ones, which exactly depending a bit on what he has in his NOS stock.
I have found both tubes to have a large sonic impact. Mix & match! Typically you would start with the preamp tube but let’s see what you have in your hands today.
Sorry to hear about the damage, really not what you want efter waiting a long time. Sad that couriers can't handle the packages betterreceived my H5 kpcu after a painfully long wait and unfortunately it arrived damaged.
luckily its working fine.
only went for stock tubes and was expecting them to not be that great. But, i have to say, so far its sounding lovely with my dt1990.
i do plan trying rolling the tubes regardless as this was one of the big appeals of the amp for me.
as others have said, the amp is totally silent with no signal at full volume.
great bit of kit, just a shame that baggage handlers/couriers cannot take more care.
i need to learn which tubes are compatible, so will start by re-reading this entire thread.
i am curious if the front tube or rear affects the signature more than the other?
As a woodworker, if a piece I made was damaged like that in the shop, I'd put a roundover on the whole top edge and call it a day. If you taped it off we'll, you wouldn't even need to disassemble it.an rca 6080 at the rear and the front one is a 6h8c but no clue on manufacturer
if i attempted that i am pretty sure it would end up looking worse. As a woodworker, if a piece I made was damaged like that in the shop, I'd put a roundover on the whole top edge and call it a day. If you taped it off we'll, you wouldn't even need to disassemble it.
https://www.vintage-electronics.co.uk/product/6as7g-jan-rca-valve-top-getter-nos-tested-v176/I think that’s a Nevz. Not bad, not bad at all!
Though very popular, myself I do not like the RCA very much. Sounds a bit smeared to me and a tad sibilant. Though it can pair well with some brighter preamp tubes, I’d start my rolling with that RCA.
hi mate,Thank you, it was my first time staining. I might go back and make it even darker in the future, but for now I'm enjoying the color and the new sound of the 6922 tubes.
Wieslaw sent me Svetlana 6s19p tubes and when I was troubleshooting I ordered another batch from the early 60s. I'll let y'all know how they sound when I get the new amp.To each his own, but within that price range I'd go for a Svetlana.
anyone here running 6N1P tubes? Wondering what rolling them to ECC88 would do. Lot's of nice dutch tubes out there.Wieslaw sent me Svetlana 6s19p tubes and when I was troubleshooting I ordered another batch from the early 60s. I'll let y'all know how they sound when I get the new amp.
thats a lot cheaper.Svetlana
