If u liked the BHC, go with H5 with miflex. My reading of BHC design and H5 led me to chose H5 with miflex - the caps have similar effect as the crack kit and tubes are also quite similar in sound signature. In my usage of both types of driver tubes, found the 6SN7s to be richer, lusher, impactful and musical than smaller driver tubes. Smaller driver tubes will however be more like Solid state sound signature - precise, accurate, relatively lower depth/holography..Any new impressions since then?
How do you like your H5?
The location of front input and consequently cables hanging off to the side is a bit meh. Good to know it can be done like you did. Also like those two black caps
Probably to do with eBay being more expensive as a seller's platform? And Paypal's fee on top of it.
Wieslaw responded to my question per email. Because I mentioned my happy times with the Crack /Speedball he replied:
''The H5 model is similar to the Bottlehead Crack. If the amplifier is to have a less warm sound signature, I recommend the H7 model.
When I asked what makes the H7 less warm than the H5:
''The input tube in the H7 model is 6N1P which has a less warm sound signature than the 6N8S in the H5 model.
In addition, 6N1P can be replaced by ECC88, and 6N13S to 6080.''
Thanks for the insight! Appreciate it.
At the very moment I also think one can't go wrong with either. I'm waiting for Wieslaw to respond to the question if H7 can also be fitted with Miflex, at a later time. So if I go with H7 or H5 in stock form, an attractive upgrade path later on is something to look forward to.
Answered: ''Yes, any amplifier can have such a modification. Anyway, you can order any amplifier in any configuration. Any amplifier will respond well with Miflex KPCU caps.''
Hope this helps
