Absolutely. My exp is with ER-6, not i, but ER-4 is like applying a turbo to the 6....everything is just better, more solid, more (clean & deep) bass, more detail and clarity in the treble
stevie Bee has it on the money, although my experience is with the er6i not er6, the er4's just have more and better of everything that etymotic do best.
I would unhesitatingly recommend to anyone to get the er4p's and also get the p to s adaptor, that way you give yourself options of using amp or not and having two different earphones for essentially the price of one.
I've had the 6s for over a year and just got the 4ps today. They're a big improvement in sound but not as easy to use/wear. Once I've got them sealed correctly in my ears they're uncomfortable and pretty dorky looking. They do have real bass, the 6s are pathetic on bass.
Yet another vote for the Er4P. After going through two pairs of Er6i in three years (the cables are a bit flimsy), I got the Er4P's a little over a week ago and am loving the sound and stouter cabling – steviebee and the others are quite right about the better SQ.
In terms of fit, I prefer the Er6i – they're less invasive in my ears than the Er4P but I did go to sleep with the 4 the other night... I use the triple flange but I have heard of people trimming a tier off the flanges for a better fit. I still haven't tried the foam because I think licking the silicone flanges give a better seal.
Never got on with flanges of any sort, so I currently use Shure olives (they fit exactly) - very comfortable. And I sleep wearing my ER-4 regularly, I just have my hand under my head...seems to work.
and x3 on the P>S cable. It's a bit clumsy, but worth it.
