chesebert, I thought like you, that you can't go wrong with the Meridian G series

I hope there is a unit in Israel that I can listen to.

Guess what, there a G07 DEMO unit on the Israeli Dealer, and they sell it for 1550$
evil_smiley.gif

it's better than the US price + 3 years of warranty

The Dealer told me the G07 and the G08 are Identical except the G08 has "True Balanced" outputs, which is not important to me cuse I use SE.
and the G08 also has Upsampling that the G07 dosen't have.
all in all I don't know if the double price justifies it, I will try to listen to both and see.

The Zapfilter mod affords you true balanced operation if you choose, but still works for single ended output.

I'm considering it for my Eastsound when I have more money to burn.

If you can you should listen to a well-burn-in Apollo because it’s a worthy contender and can be had at under list.

Listening with the source in your system is the proper way to go, but if you can't then at least try to listen to as many sources as you can at local audio shops before you pull the trigger.

The E5 is a fine player, but I thought the Apollo did things better and was more pleasing to my ear.

It's kind of a problem for me to listen to a lot of sources, technical stuff like getting a car and go to the store.

I might get to audiotion the G07 and G08, both at terrific prices.
The G08 is being sell second hand at just 2000$. and the G07 at 1550 but it's a Demo unit.
I never heared a meridian so I really don't know what to expect.

I am leaving the E5 as my "last resort"

The G08 is unlike any other source I’ve heard to date. It’s like you have Neo’s ears in the Matrix where you can hear everything and it seems like things are going in slow motion, but there not. I suppose my biggest concern with the G08 would be whether the macro dynamics would be pleasing for the long haul and the recessed vocals. Since it appears that it provides an equally balanced presentation on nearly all sonic spectrums so everything is easier to identify and hear which is unnaturally beautiful.

Rumor has it that Meridian is discontinuing the G07 (i.e., no more transports), so I would research this before plunking down the dough for one. I forgot where I read it, but it was in a Meridian forum ("Hitchhiker's Guide To Meridians" ?) a couple of months ago. Saving $450 for a unit with no transport replacements may not be a good idea in the long run

Thanks for letting me know PATB =)
I will consider this.
I hope the G08 will still be available after i will manage to audition it, because at the price it is being selled here it will probably be taken in a few days.

I also read that Meridian had enough to service G07's if they had issues on the same site (Hitchikers....) The GO7 is discontinued as far as I can tell, and replaced by the G06. DON'T depress me.... I just bought a G07 in the for sale forum. UPS Tracking says it will be here tomorrow

I can't wait....

the better the amp, the better the g08 will sound. you will appreciate it with a great amp over many other sources & it has balanced outputs. you may find it neutral & boring with mediocre amps. the g08 makes the best amps sound great & is non-exciting with the mediocre stuff.

the e5 makes a great transport with an outboard dac. but, the analogue outputs are harsh to my ears.

the rega apollo sounds very warm & is superb with your lesser headphone amps.

so, it all depends on the amp you plan on using with the superb g08. the g08 really requires the best amps to show it's strengths.

p.m. me if you have any amps in mind & i may be able to recommend a digital source.

Well if you heard it & like it, then by all means get it. For me personally, the audio sound when I listened to it for over an hour on an E-5 that had been used for over a year, was it was dull, flat & anylitical. In other words sterile with no warmth or balls. I so much prefer my vintage Pioneer PD-59 CD player which you can find on Ebay for between $200-300 around once or twice a month, as itsa sound is warm, sweet & alive. I play mainly 60/70's remastered rock & blues CD's. My Pioneer is connrected to a Denon 3801 A/V Receiver connected to 5 Orb Mod 1 Speakers & a Subwoofer. I prefer to listen to natural 5.1 stereo mode . My CD player is connected by optical cable. Good luck. The main thing is if you heard a system you like by all means get it don't rely on other people like myself to tell you otherwise.
