Hifiman makes great sounding gear but the RE-400s I bought aren't exactly long lasting.  This pair is still under warranty so we'll see....  again, I'd hesitate to spend more than $150 on anything without detachable cables (has there been an earbud with this feature).

I dont think they've released it yet but it should be sometime soon.

They are collecting feedback from beta testers and revising the design at the same time. HIFIMAN basically say beta testing will take as long as it needs, that means no tentative release date yet.

I hope they put an additional focus on durability (cables, connectors, strain reliefs).  I've always been pleased with Hifiman sound but less so with build quality.

Hmm, I wonder if there will be an X1 & ES100 combo.  I wouldn't put it past some store to put them together in a bundle, wouldn't mind being able to pick up both at a slight discount.

+1. Earbuds seem to always lack build quality, this obviously excludes sennheisers earbuds but everyone else just never seem to focus on build quality...

I think i would prefer the old design of earbuds . These might not have a good fit in my ears , but of course i would like to preorder to try them
