It may be an entrepreneurial opportunity to bring out aftermarket parts for the ES-R10. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Especially if they're already charging $350 for pads and rings... 😲

Tried pad swapping with Audeze, ZMF, and Fostex… it takes away from the unique sound it has. Tried to swap because the touching of the ears is bothersome but the sound change for me was not worth it so the original pads went back on. May need to pickup some backup pads just in case as well.

reached out to ES Labs today and grabbed extra pads and rings for ~$350 shipped to US. that's with a discount for previous purchase of the headphone.

i was seriously considering pulling a mulveling and getting another pair but i am beyond happy with my pair's cups and drivers so just future-proofing the stuff that might break down.
Your pair is truly gorgeous, so securing spare parts for it is reasonable. That's the approach I've taken for my Tannoys.

This same track recommended on the Atrium thread is also what I use.. check out the R10's soundstage width and that fantastic wooden resonance in the bass~

"43:30 - Bian says Sony R10 is not as good as people claims it to be. He prefers Bose NC700, Sony XB900N and Sony WH-1000XM3 over Sony R10.
That's quite a claim!

Has anyone compared the ES-R10 to the WH-1000XM3?

It would be interesting since so many people own the latter.

I'm pretty sure he was joking/trolling. Every single Hifiman headphone I've heard is better than the 1000XM3. I own the 1000XM3 and use it on flights and in the subway. It is fine for a portable/foldable noise canceling headphone with long battery life, but no one would mistake it for audiophile quality.

Yeah, I guess a more realistic comparison would be versus the DCA Aeon 2 Noire, for example.

From the pic, it looks like you did the HD650 copper ring mod? How you like it?

Number 68 here.

I came from the ES-1a e-stat headphones.

Just wanna say the ES R10s are overall a great pair of headphones. It's definitely different from the estat sound I'm used to.

Build quality is not perfect but definitely not terrible either. It feels comfortable to me even after wearing for 3 hours continuously in the humid Summer of Singapore. The clamp isn't overbearing. Many parts are 3d printed and it is obvious that a lot of thoughts have been put into the details when crafting this r10 clone.

Initial sound impression:
Done on Cayin RU6 dongle

The ES-R10 can sound slightly congested and shrill during complexed passages especially those involving electric guitars. This is probably because of the resonance inside the closed headphone chamber.

Otherwise all good. Reverberant and expansive sounding for closed back. Imaging is well layered although not pin point exact. Gentle mid bass hump gives a great rhythm to the music and the mids are detailed and sweet. Not too much emphasis on the sub-bass or treble. It feels well spaced out and doesn't get in the way of the focus of the music.

The cable is adequately long and well made.

I shall let everything burn in first for now.
