6EM7 is the first to be tried. Test point shows 62.5mV or 62.5mA however you want to call it.

What do you know, 6EM7 as power tubes sound excellent. Gain is as strong as EL12, the previous power tubes that I was using. Test point measures it at 61.6mA now. Gone down a bit but otherwise safe. No explosion. Just very good music and the song 'I still haven't found what I am looking for' came on.

Tonally as good as EL12 !!! Colour me impressed. Full body tone, lovely texture and good bass akin to 300b !!! Well slightly. So Eric is right when he says that 6EM7 is a baby 300b.

6EM7 sound so good. How can I move on to the next 6BX7? Reluctantly !!! Let's roll through all the possibilities before I come back and enjoy these 'new' power tubes for Ultimate.

6BX7 next and it is using 6SN7(P) - this is to parallel the twin triodes as ONE using the 6J5 socket.

Would you say a little prayer for my Ultimate please. If it is going to blow, this would be it.

Who would have known that 6BX7 as power tube works very well in Ultimate? I certainly didn't know before but I know now. With both triodes parallel into ONE, it is just slightly behind 6EM7 for power.

To be clear, 6BX7 is very powerful as power tubes. With HD800, my volume at 9am is sufficient. Biased at 51.4 mA so very safe.

@triod750 would no doubt be very pleased to hear this. I will try the 6BL7 later but I am sure it will perform just as well and will be more powerful.

Now for 6AS7 that every Peter, Paul and Mary wants to know if it will work. I will use Mullard 6080 instead as --- 6SN7(S) - this is to use the one half of the twin triode of the 6080.

Unfortunately 6080 will not work. Biased at 96.6 mV However I did listen to Water of love for a few seconds and it sounded ok !

Well 2 out of 3 ain't too bad. Now I will try with 6SN7 instead.

Today I am using my UltimatE as a pre-amp into my Willsenton R8 powering my 96db efficient speakers and I was truly stunned , its the best I have heard my speakers sound .I have a Denafrips Athena pre-amp which is an amazing and much more expensive pre-amp but the UltimatE provides more soundstage, dynamics and better base. Very happy , did not expect this added bonus
