Hello, I was wondering if Anybody knows what the differences are between these two? If it is only the connections then I could go for the 0202 usb since I only need lineout and maybe optical out.
Do these have a lineoutjack? I thought I read they do not have balanced outputs, is that right?
Thanks in advance,
Greetings, Anouk,

They're quite different. They apparently have quite different DACs, from different companies - that of the 0404 being newer. Also the 0202 is USB powered, while the 0404 needs its own power supply.
There are quite good guides to the inputs and outputs on the EMU site (e.g. E-MU Systems - 0202 USB 2.0 - USB 2.0 Audio Interface ), and lots more detailed information if you search this forum. FWIW, I'm very happy with my 0202.

I've not heard the 0202 so I can't really compare them, but the 0404 USB has a decent built in headphone amp.

I personally wanted the 0404 USB for in ADC. I'm using it to digitize my LPs.

Both 0202USB and 0404USB have analog output, the difference, 0202USB have unbalance output, 0404USB have unbalance and balance. You can use either one with your amp.

Anything that is considered a DAC by definition has analog line out in some form.

Hello, balanced outputs? interesting, i guess you would need a 1/4 to xlr cable though?
Greetings, Anouk,

Correct. You would need a TRS to XLR cable for a balanced signal and a TS to XLR cable for unbalanced.

Edit: The E-MU 0404 only has TS/TRS combo outputs. It also has a 1/8 TRS stereo output. (unbalanced obviously)

Hey, well I decided to buy one of these since I am rather curious and want to compare it to the dac in my ibasso d10. It will be a temp (well tmep likely a year or so) solution till I can afford a highend dac. I paid 150 euro for one, which is cheap here in NL generally they cost 200 euro new!
It will probbably be difficult finding out all the ocnnectors and controls since I am not used to pro cards.Hopefully I will have it either saturday or monday.
Greetings, Anouk,.
