I have several headphone amps that I am confident will be able to drive my soon-to-arrive K1000s with ease. But in the past I have had good results driving my HiFiMAN HE-6s off a Tripath chip-based speaker amp (a Trends TA-10.2SE) and my Emotiva mini-x a-100 (I have a speaker-tap to 4-pin XLR adapter).
 
Recently I've read a few posts raising the question of whether it is safe to use something like the HE-6s or K1000s with a Tripath-based amp, although the posts didn't go into details and I don't understand what the problem would be.
 
Has anybody here tried their K1000s out of an Emotiva mini-x a-100, or know why a Tripath-based amp might not be a good fit?

You can't run single-ended headphones off of a Tripath chip, IIRC, even with the proper loading.  You can, as you know, run a balanced headphone though so long as you're giving the Tripath chip the expected load.  Not sure how the loading plays with the AKGs but you can start your hunt for more info here:
