That's a difficult matter in your situation.
I have P-51 & have loved it's vigorous, nimble sound with a little warmth & cool design.
According to jamato8's review of The Shadow, without any caps in the signal path, The Shadow has clean, pure sound.
However, P-51 can sound many earbuds or headphones (for example, my Triple.fi 10 Pro, UM3X & Edition8) very attractively too.

I recommend Both.
But, If you want one,
Finally, I think Your choice depends on Your needs.
difference between these 2 amps: design, size, volume type (analogue knob or digital), the existence of caps or without any caps :

Anyway, Ray's amps are so reliable

I generally believe in buying a product that is excellent for one purpose, not an all-rounder but does not excel in any (of course there are exceptions).

I am looking for a portable amp to primarily drive my Shure in-ear earphones from iPod touch. Assuming that I will not be using the amp to drive headphones, will the Shadow be the 'ideal' amp for my needs? Am I losing any sound quality by not getting the bigger amp such as the SR-71A? Thanks.
