I've always been a fan of Thomas Edison but never knew of this early application of his then newly invented Phonograph:

RARE 1890 EDISON TALKING DOLL w/ORIGINAL MECHANISM - eBay (item 300341063015 end time Sep-04-09 20:00:00 PDT)

I've got to visit his museum one of these days. Anybody been there?

Wow - thank you for posting this! Old technology is so fascinating and I can't believe this survived so long in excellent condition. I hope it falls into the hands of a museum that will display it.

I hope this happens and that they play and record the recording so that it can from that point on be replayed through the push of a button so everyone can hear what they would have sounded like!
