Eddie Current's upcoming SS amp called Red Top ?!

That was the none-tube version. Those power transformers are overkill. Was pretty much spare parts. No idea of how the tube PS will even look like. Maybe we can get glowie purple xeon gas tubes?

Oooh.  Is Craig still taking crowd sourced input?  Hah!

BTW, is BournePerfect by any chance getting all that reputation because you were somehow instrumental in instigating this current production run?

LOL, I brought up the possibility of using our own DIY power supplies, and he suddenly got worried. People do wierd things like using wrong adapters for tubes, or just wrong tubes, or rewiring stuff wrong, blowing up his amps. He ends up having to fix them.

Does the amp have enough juice to drive planers pretty good?

HE-6 is a special case so I have no idea. Abyss, PM-2, LCD-2.2, T50RP mods, etc. were all fantastic. Didn't break a sweat. Taut bass, great control. Better than the 4-45 in terms of grabbing the driver by the nuts - but that should be expected for good SS.

Dark Tone???

Ok here we go - DAC time.

So I'm thinking about the TH600 or the Alpha Dogs.  Don't want to go all out - still have tubes I have to get.

The DACs I'll be looking at will be the Metrum Octave mk2 or the W4S DAC 2.  Two really different DACs I know, may even be on opposite ends of the spectrum.  Hope the Octave mk2 won't make the sig to dark.  May be just right with the Alpha Dogs thou..

Ooh.  The infamous Blacktop.  I thot all of those were purged in the last Great Recall.

I've got a really good feeling about my Red Top going in...  We're fairly sure the run is going to happen?

I'm thinking about trying out my Ciúnas DAC in the desktop configuration.  Not sure how much room will be left after the PSU upgrade.

Oh geez yes it does Prep! Been a while since I looked at the product page.

That said-why the Red Top? Craig get a discount on some b-stock metal or something? Doesn't seem like something he normally does-let alone naming the amp after it. Seems weird...

Eye candy for the office decor conscious.  I mean, it's not like a garish shade or anything; more of an understated elegant kind of a rustic.

Maybe it's named for the top P layer on a PNP BJT.

But I guess something like Bipolar Order or Babel Un SS might have been more in line...

The official Red Top page hasn't many informations

Is it a  balanced design, with balanced inputs or is the 4 pins XLR output is only there for convenience ?
Any idea of the output impedance ?
Does it play well with high sensitivity headphones ? (Fostex TH-900 inside).

Please add a photo of the back - and even inside, if you are allowed to :)

Many thanks :)

Yes, good to ask. Nice to find a Balanced Out but better design if all balanced. I think price would increase but with HD tracks now very common (Europe with Qobuz) and DAP like AK240 (or RWAK120) there are customers for.
