I used to have a serial-numbered White Album. The last track, good-bye or good night, whatever it was, was just about worn out. Must have been used on a radio show. Don't even ask me what happened to it...

Part of the reason it went for so much is that it is a high numbered copy. I'm not sure why, but when it comes to numbered limited editions, collectors favor the higher numbers. Having such a sought after rarity come up with such a high number is a pretty rare event, and would justify the premium for a true Beatles collector.

It also looked to be in excellent condition, which helped. If you do have such an album, maybe take it down to your local record store and have the owner look at it and recommend an appraiser.

ADDED: I suffered through the all caps type and learned that high numbered limited editions are usually reserved for those close to the artist, and it was explained that a chauffer for John Lennon previously owned this copy.

So, chances are your copy will likely not command such a high price.

Not only are they reserved for the artist but they are earlier pressings which means the vinyl stamper is still fresh. This usually means better sounding records.

I'm one of the world's biggest Beatles fans, but that's just stupid. Then what are numbers 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,2 1,2,23,24,25,.... worth? Really idiotically inflated price for a mass produced item of little genuine value.

Gah mine is worth even less, No. 0254993. When you take the condition into account I'd probably have to pay somebody to take it off my hands. Why was/is my father completely incapable of looking after LPs?
