Hi

Please can I have some recommendations for good closed headphones, over ear type that can run well without a dedicated headphone amp. My mate just wants to plug them into the headphone socket on his new Naim SuperNait2 which apparently has a class A headphone amp built -in.

He likes lively cans like the Grados but closed is a prerequisite for domestic bliss.

Thanks guys,
Julian

Off the top of my head:

Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro

and

Focal Spirit Classic (just announced)

Hi BinaB, thanks for your quick response!

Coincedentally, I too was thinking of the Focals (Spirit1). Will check out the Beyers too thanks. BTW, both are about the right price too, say £200/$250ish.

You're welcome :)

Additionally consider the Sony MDR-1R. It's apparently a good set of cans but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

Wow, thanks for the recommendations. My mate now has the shortlist and is going to get some demos. It is amazing what is available at relatively affordable end of the market, some really good looking kit. Those Sonys look so classy!
