OK, maybe nobody read my last post anyways, but I feel I need to make a correction, as I may have done the Tr-Amp a disservice. Aeon Flow Opens did sound worse with the Tr-Amp compared to the LG V30 directly, but now I believe that is due to the Tr-Amp better illuminating the deficiencies of those headphones. Bass became more obviously bloated and would bleed into the lower mids hiding detail there. There was also a more prominent ringing/sibilance in the low treble range that made certain tracks almost unlistenable even with the thicker filter inserts. Just tried out the newer DCA Aeon 2 Closed cans with the Tr-Amp and magic happened. Gorgeous reproduction with none of the faults of the older open model. This was a good lesson for me that scaling up won't necessary improve headphones that have some glaring errors. I read some recent reviews that mirrored my experience between the different Dan Clark models. Oh, and the HD800S still also sounds amazing on the Tr-Amp: perhaps some added musicality and warmth to the already profound soundstage and detail.
Got an unboxed Tr-Amp for less than $200 and waiting for it to arrive. I have a Headamp Pico that I love but am now concerned as to how to connect it to the TR-Amp. Will a 3.5 to L-R RCA work in the reverse with the RCA out from my TR-Amp to the line-in 3.5 port of my Headamp Pico?
The Headamp Pico is an extremely potent portable amp that has desktop grade performance in a tiny form factor and so I want to use it along with DAC portion of the TR-Amp for a solid portable system though I admit that I am yet to hear the amp section of the TR-Amp.
I posted this in the Hifiman Xs thread too: the Earmen drives it with the same power as the topping A30pro high gain single output (5.5w into 32ohms). But weeks ago we tried the Earmen against the Beyer A20 with the hd600, and the Beyer drove better the Sennheiser (300ohms). Next time I will try to test the hd600 with the topping...
