I got the HP4 recently. Beside its main function as a headphone amp, can it double up as a preamp? Or do I need to get a preamp to link into the HP4 before linking it to a power amp then to the speakers?

I see a button on the left of the amp called power amp which can be turned on or off.

Trying to see what I need to do to use the HP4 as a preamp for my speaker rig.

Anyone with some experience with the HP4, appreciate your contributions.

Thanks.

I have an HP-4 and as far as I know the output is a line-level out (or tape out) -- the output is not attenuated by the volume knob. I hook up the output to another headphone amp, but you could easily hook up the output to a preamp or an integrated amp: source > HP-4 > Pre-Amp > Amp.
