E500 and SE530 not exactly the same?

In my opinion it's nonsense. He claims to have seen an early prototype so that might explain the change. I've seen both the E500 and E530 side to side and they are the same. off course my E500 isn't anywhere near the same anymore after customization

There is a difference...The Shure SE530s sound better than the Shure E500's

Are you serious? Where do you get this? They are the same except for:
- packaging
- newer SE530s have the reformulated cable

Have you heard them both?

Specs wise, the only difference is that the SE530's have the air vents for the bass (similar to the ones used in SE310's I believe) and E500's don't. I don't recall people saying that they sound all that different at all but theoretically SE530 should have bit better bass extension because of that technology.

Everything else is the exact same.

Come on guys, I checked with Shure and quite a few other people (Trust-Worthy) before my purchase of E500s from their last batch. No one has said they are different, not even the construction-wise. The answer I've got from Shure is that they made a revamp to the complete line-up with E500 becoming SE530s.

Sugarfried is a Shure representative that hangs out on this site and when this question has come up before, he stated they are the same except, as I mentioned before, the packaging and, now, the newer cable formula. I don't even think the bass porting is different. BTW, he says he led the design team for the E500s, so I'm guessing he knows what he is talking about.

Yeah, i think it's what Arjisme said.

If the Se530 did have the bass port, i think they would have put it on their website like they do with the Se310

Shure - SE530 Sound Isolating Earphones

Shure - SE310 Sound Isolating Earphones

As you can see, only the Se310 has the bassport feature mentioned whereas the Se530 don't

Plus, as Arjisme said, Sugarfried from shure has confirmed it himself.

For the Bass woofer venting, the source is only from Wikipedia, but take it for what you will. I don't think its the same thing as the technology in SE310's though, on second read.

Shure - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The SE incarnations of the E3, E4, and E5 will undergo a major facelift, while the E500, when renamed to the SE530, will retain its design, with the exception of newly internal air vented woofers. [13]"

Do not know if that makes a difference or not, but if there is its probably negligeable.

Shure has stated many times that the two models are exactly the same, the only difference being a model name change (to match their new line) and different bundled accessories. But no difference whatsoever in the phones themselves.
