Just want to post this for anyone in the future in the same situation as me.
 
I am using this amp attached to my pc and was getting a squelchy background noise when taking the volume past 4 or so.
As I didn't pay much for the amp I assumed this was just something to accept.
 
Tried moving the amp away from the pc, screen, my mobile phone anything that might be causing interference.
nothing.
 
Then brainwave.
I've got this connect to my pc to keep the battery topped up.
Unplugged the usb and all the noise is gone, using a mains usb charger it's still good too.

It is commonly referred as a 'ground loop' issue., just FYI.
