I have found several guides which reccomend disabling APCI for the best sound card configuration, in addition to the Creative link posted above.

I don't know if this is of help, but you did say you were willing to try anything.

Most likely it is the motherboard chipset implementation on your motherboard that is making the difference in some people getting this working and you not.

What I found is
E-mu and Audigy series actually using simiar drivers.
The main driver filename is the same: ctaud2k.sys

That probably explained why....
