I couldn't agree more. I try to have an idea about build quality, features, possible drawbacks from the reviews. Then I follow the corresponding thread on head-fi, sometimes the hype dies off after a while and you get more objective opinions.
For the sound, my ears are the only judge. Of course, I am biased towards certain brands, so there's little chances I will have to send back or sell some DAPs.
If it's not possible to sample it before buying or at least return it, I prefer to wait, follow threads, maybe even get it second hand. The 340 Max will be the exception, will probably pre-order as soon as announced :)

I tried to negotiate for a 320 Max, so I can AB it with the D16 and 340. Unfortunately, the seller won’t budge. So, I’ll join you guys and set that money aside for the 340 Max.

So you are buying DX340 and DX340Max? 😳

Still not much info about Dx340 yet. But so far, an external 12V PSU can be supplied toward the Amp directly which will bypass the internal PSU! This will be the first DAP to have this feature. I wonder if Ibasso will produce linear external PSU for it

The PSU is included in the box.

FiiO M17 had such a desktop mode, no?
