Same! Still can't believe how excellent sound quality they were able to achieve in DX 260 and I'm so glad it took transparent/reference path. I find it also to be in sublime synergy with my CIEMs:D.
Although I definitely don't believe in DAP burn-in process and if anything, in my opinion, it may be a brain adaptation and 'burn-in'. If you could now compare/AB a brand new unit with the one with miles on it it should really sound identical. The trick is in the brain processing. BTW, I also find it funny they include this burn-in cable, but to each his own, especially as it leads to the same auditory results:).
I dont want to get in a burn iin debate with you because you believe what you believe and it can be pointless to try and change the opinion of people like you.

Burn in is definitely 100% real. As a general statement of fact most if not all electronics and wire will benefit from burn in. I have owned enough high end stereo components and cables over the years to know this to be true. People who have limited experience cant understand this. Perhaps others may chime in to help you gain knowledge and understanding.

I'll agree to disagree then, so as not to derail this thread. Let's just say I'm not new and have 30+ years of experience in this hobby. Always willing to learn something new, though:).
That aside, we still agree DX 260 is an awesome machine!:)

Hello there,

Lucky owner of this wonderful DAP, I'm looking for the best IEM (according to my taste) that fits with it. The DX260 being quite neutral and being oversensitive to trebles, I'm looking for an IEM on the warmish/bassy side. I'm using currently the Dunu Titan S that are much too bright (and not enough bassy).

Which IEM would you recommand for an IEM in the range of 100$/100€ that could fit with my taste? I'm wondering if the AFUL explorer or AFUL Magic one could be the good ones. Have somebody experience with these 2 IEMs?

Thank you very much and have a good day.
Save your money and buy a good/hi-fi set off classifieds. Why bother with mid/low-fi? You have a $1k DAP. Its worth a $1k pair of IEMs. Maven II/under $1200 used pairs great with DX260. I even own a spare set that is in storage.

I'd agree with that! You can buy once and cry twice or buy once & cry once & enjoy forever more....
With what you're describing - The UM Mext would be perfect. It's bass presentation has lots of rumble. The mids are luscious, back filled by that bone conduction driver and the treble is ever so slightly rolled off - not that they're missing, just softened on the outer edges compared to some of the estat implimentations. It is a GREAT all rounder, with great fit and finish for all day wearing comfort. I think there are a few on the classified. You should be able to pick one up for $400 to $600

I also love my MKIII but only have 1 set of those. I got mine without cable from classifieds for $900 still under warranty. It may hold a bit of edge to Maven II with slightly larger stage. Prices are going down on IEMs if you have noticed and I think that trend will continue. I have not heard the Mext but I do like UM's IEMs but with the 2 UM sets I have I am not even tempted to buy another IEM. Last one was the EBC80 and that one was very much a down-grade despite its $600 price. Returned for full refund which Penon allowed but cost me $50 in shipping.

Lets just say you are the 1% or .1% that dont believe in burn in. I am afraid your make believe 30+ years of experience wont help you understand. I guess you know more than us audiophiles and all the manufacturers, including iBasso...thanks for all your wisdom lol

We all hear differently (I state the obvious) and perceive, to a greater or lesser degree, differently. It is okay to not believe in burn-in. The important thing is to enjoy the music and I am glad so many can and do. There are many things we can share and sharing music, the love of the sound and joy it can bring, is extremely important.

Love the DX260! Its better to my ears then the DX320. I got a DX180 used but only had 10 hours on it. The sound did change as I used it - for the better. My DX260 was already "burned in" when I got it so no change in sound from day 1. The DX260 is good enough that I am not tempted to get a 340 even.

Hi,
You are right, at this price it deserves a better IEM. But I can't bring myself to spend so much on earphones
Anyway thanks for your recommandation

I’ll second the recommendation to buy a decent set of iems. I use CA Ara and Noble Audio Jade with my 260 - it drives my Aeon2’s as well. The difference you will hear will astound you and reveal full the potential of the dx260. The ibasso dx260 deserves the best IEM you can afford to buy, without a doubt.

Indeed, lower quality IEM's generally won't let you appreciate the DAP, and definitely not to its full potential, being the weakest link. In fact, IEM's are the most important here and more important than source/amplification itself.
Just from perspective, because it could indeed save you money in the whole process. Most likely, when going for so-so IEM's you'll still end up replacing them for better ones when going up the audio chain (and perhaps repeat that multiple times).
But, on the other hand, it depends and some may find the journey more attractive and ear-opening. My advice looking back: don't waste time!:D
