I'm debating whether to buy the DX260. Too many DAPs already! Wonder if it can surpass my modified Sony NW-ZX707.

I have one question regarding the line out function. When I turn on the Line Out, does it mean it change both SE and Balanced PO to LO? Or just the SE PO to LO?
it will change whichever one is being utilized. If your utilizing SE, than switching from PO to LO will affect SE. Of your utilizing Balance, same rules apply.

The hunt always continues, that's your dilemma. You need to find peace within you. I'm sticking with my modded DX240 and ZX507 for now.
Can you please share more details about the modded dx240?

I haven't listened to a Sony DAP since they've gone class D but I' haven't found a class D amp I really like and usually the opposite. That said, it's likely much easier to implement successfully in this type of power setting.

The ZX707 is a great place to start. With some hardware mods, it sounds better sounding than the DX240 with both Amp8EX and 8MK2S and pretty darn close if not better than the stock 1ZM2. I am interested in the DX260 because it’s has a coaxial input so I can use it to feed my D16 and PB5 stack. The DX320 X is just to big and long for that duty.

I'll have to hear one to find out if that's the case for me but their still sought after DMP Z1 has a linear amp that Sony proudly extolled as an 'analog' amplifier.

Currently, I'm grooving on my tweaked amp1mk3/filter 5. Found this while investigating.

And let’s also add, if one wants the best sound quality in transportable version, then DMP-Z1 is your choice. Speaking from personal experience owning both WM1ZM2 and DMP-Z1, the latter sounds above the WM1 series in every expect of music reproduction.
I heard Sony's 1st class D amp in 1978 and it even had a switch mode power supply. TA-N88.

I did what iBasso did for AMP8-MKIIs but went a step further and sourced a 0.015uf 2.5% Film Capacitor (FKP not MKP which has lower sound quality from my tests) instead of the cheaper 5% or 10% most companies use due to cost savings and availability.

The 2.5% and 1% tolerance Film Caps use copper leads. The difference in sound quality + transparency +stage width+ depth is amazing.
