It would be nice to see them offer both 2.5 and 4.4 in the stock module. Not to many do that, that I can think of (I have a Kann Alpha that does but it's a big player). For Ibasso, doing so would probably cut into the sales of the Amp8 module but I'm not saying that is their motivation for not offering both. It may just be an issue with space.

All you have to do is get the AMP8, which is 4.4 and a plate for the DX240 and your are set. The AMP8 is excellent sounding.
Personally i'm hoping for an Amp8 mkii. Considering how much the Amp 1 has improved throughout its revisions it'll certainly be an outstanding amp module.

Yes, amp8 is still their top amp, and even DX220 MAX and DX300 MAX amplifier stage was designed based on its architecture.

yeah it makes me wonder what the roadmap for this DAP is, will we see any more amp modules that can fit this chassis or is this just a way to let people use their older amps in a newer dap? Because fo me this is a much more appealing dap design over the DX300 … the fact it’s not too different from the DX160 in size from pictures makes it desirable.

Honestly, IMO, the only amps worthy of having interchangeable amps for are 7 for single ended, 8 for balanced, and 9 for the Korg Nu-Tube. All amps 1-6 were almost like iBasso was still experimenting with how to design the best amp for the system. Or in other words... even if you have all the amps, there's really no reason you'd ever use 1-6 over 7, 8, or 9.

Compatability with older amp modules is a plus, a new gen of amp modules is certainly on the way.

Which kinda makes the "backwards compatability" lose a bit of its meaning since the best amp module won't be supported. Still hoping someone can TRY to squeeze in the amp 9 into the DX240. @twister6 what say you :D

How sure are you about more amp modules? Is this entirely speculation or have you seen something that would say this is true also? Sorry if I missed it.

Speculation. It just makes sense that Ibasso would make new amp modules to complement their new android daps with faster processors. That and i trust there will be quite a number of people who would want to just buy an amp module directly rather than having to buy two items and combine them to get an amp module.

TLDR: It makes business sense. New products sell better.

I don't want to speculate why amp9 is not going to be supported for conversion to use with DX240, maybe the circuit is sensitive or it is mechanically not feasible to take it out of the original amp chassis without damaging NuTube module, or something else, who knows. Also, "best amp" is subjective since, unfortunately, the noise floor of amp9 made it unusable with most of my IEMs.

Yeah, thats why i'm hoping someone or maybe you could try making it fit into the DX240.

Maybe it wont fit because of the damping material to prevent nutube microphonics and it could be worked around by substituting damping material with something thinner ourselves.

For those who were curious why only amp1-8 could be converted for use with DX240, and not NuTube amp9, here are a few pictures that worth thousand words

AMP9 on the left and AMP1 MKII from DX240 on the right - most likely won't fit. Thus, amp1 through amp8 only.
