Hi all, I'm looking for a comparison of these two headphones for a purchase. I have read up all about W5000 but cannot find anything compared to DX1000. I really enjoyed W10vtg when I borrowed it, but I'm really on the fence comparing these two different sound signatures. If someone could help me with a rundown that would be great. I listen to anything, Rock Jazz Classical Pop, very all around.

DX1000 if you enjoy a presentation with pronounced bass. The bass of the W5000 is anemic, especially if it doesnt fit right. Its a sure bet you'd be molding the headband to better fit your head during the initial weeks of use.

The DX1000 is enjoyable and fun, the W5000 is transparent and not as fun to listen to. It makes you concentrate on the music. The W5000s performance is also amp specific but does sound quite good on the Yamamoto HA-2 and superb on the HA5000.

Given the choice between the two i'd pick the DX1000 easy. The only way the W5000 wins out is if you were looking for perfect synergy and bought the HA-2 or HA5000, and didnt mind the W5000s more transparent sound characteristics.

Both are quite comfortable, with the DX1000 being the leader in this department if one were to ask, so theres no problems there.

And both have a nice soundstage for a closed back.

It simply depends on what type of qualities you want from your music.

It's really like comparing apples to oranges. The two are nothing alike, imho. I can't really think anything they have in common except maybe soundstage (which I think the DX1000 wins).

But anyway, having owned both, the DX1000 wins hands down in all categories. Also, if you have a problem with fit on the W5000 the bass response will suffer. A lot.
And seeing since you listen to everything from rock, jazz, classical, pop - the DX1000 will definetely be the best allrounder.

But as always, it's a matter of taste and this is just my $0.02

x2

I tried the both W5000 /w Apuresound and W2002 with my OMZ DAC/HEADAMP, and they sounded very good to their sakes. The DX1000 sounded even better, so I decided to get one recently. The W5000 /w Apuresound improves bass. My 2 cents.

Dx1000 and no worry about fit issue of the w5000.

But then again, I hate dx1000 cheap plastic headband ,you can see some pics in the DX1000 thread.

sounds like the dx1000 is probably more my cup of tea, im just worried that its bass will OVERWHELM the rest of the spectrum. i like bass but not enough to sacrifice the highs or mids for it

These two headphones are NIGHT and DAY. The DX1000 was a very enjoyable listen, albeit with perhaps a bit over-pronounced bass. They will look ridiculous on your head but they're comfortable and fit nicely. Kind of like a baby L3000, in that they're very nice sounding closed cans with lots of bass. A little less accurate than the L3000, though.

The W5000 was very, very lacking in bass. Does not fit right out of the box. Not an enjoyable experience.

the DX1000 is definitely a headphone i would like to spend some quality time with. has always sounded very good to me. the W5000 not so much - very light on bass with a harsh, bright treble and issues regarding fit.

Don't be worried about overwhelming bass. It's not that bad. The bass of the DX1000 is detailed and controlled, it does not affect the other frequency ranges. A fine headphone , yet not an allrounder (it covers more genres than the W5000, but still is "special").
The W5000 only sounds good with about 20% of my music collection. But is has a "multi-layer bass" which is quite impressive, although it is very bass-light. And of course this peak in the upper mids... which makes music sound absolutely great or absolutely strange...
