DUNU DN-2000J -- More Than Evolution?

Saw this comparison between the Noble K10 Universal and the DN-2000J on ERJI; only skimmed it, but it basically says that the DN-2000J is thinner and less forward projected than is the Noble K10U, but that the DN-2000J is very impressive with detail, clarity, and soundstage width. The guy also goes into pairing with sources like the FiiO X3K and the L&P L5, but I didn't bother to read that stuff.

$299 is seriously an awesome price for what you guys are getting. No joke. I can't believe they're willing to go that low, considering how well the 2000 did. Maybe they just want to get out the first shipment of happy customers and hope it pays off in the long run through word of mouth.

  Wil amazon have it?

Eventually, probably. But that's something you'll have to ask DUNU themselves (PM them) regarding when it'll be available on Bezos' Bazaar.

Lend Me UR Ears stocks some stuff in the states through Amazon, including the original 2000s, so it's possible that way also.

Did lmue give any indication how much the 2000J will be retailing?
Hopefully they will have some pre order sales

They haven't settled on a price yet but it's likely to be similar to or slightly higher than the original 2000. I'm hoping that they'll have some new product release sale.

Not sure if my original post is stuck or just didn't go through so will post again.

I have the DN-1000 and enjoy them.

I am visiting Taipei right now and was intrigued with the DN-2000J.  It was mentioned that some folks came to Taipei to purchase their DUNUs.  Are there options to purchase the DN-2000J locally in Taipei for any better than the Massdrop deal?  I may seriously consider getting some while here if there is an advantage in doing so.

Also,  Does anyone have some comparative feedback between the DN-1000 and the DN-2000J?

A83, FLC8 and AX60 are currently the most expensive IEMs at their store. Let's hope they don't price the 2000J any higher than those.
I remembered the last time lmue had a 18% sales promotion including Dunu.
If lmue has the same promotion again, DN2000J will be a very attractive buy. :D

The DN-2000J isn't available in Taiwan at the moment --- only the DN-2000 and Titan 1 are available; from what I've heard, the DN-2000J will only be available in late June, around or after the time the Massdrop deal ships. They do sell DUNU products at a local market discount here, but I don't envision the DN-2000J dipping lower than the $305 it's being offered at right now on Massdrop. DUNU isn't actually especially popular in Taiwan, as many Taiwanese tend to prefer Japanese or US/European brands. What do you enjoy most about the DN-1000? The DN-2000J should be a significant uptick in refinement over the DN-1000.

So how is the fun factor/PRaT on the J? Does it draw you into the music or is it easy to get hung up analyzing and criticizing details?
Also how does it keep up with faster, technical music like Swedish metal in terms of double bass and guitar crunch?

The red part cannot be answered for you, as that's almost purely a subjective point of view. I can state that I don't feel I get "hung up" analyzing/critiquing details --- that's something I naturally do because of my personality, but I feel I can simultaneously enjoy the music as well. The lime part is not an issue; this music will keep up with anything, IMHO.

Hi guys,

I'm new on this forum and I'd like to thank all of you for providing super useful feedbacks to noobs like me.
I don't consider myself to be an audiophile and all my purchases are aimed at providing me with a WOW feeling when listening to music. I mainly listen to complex EDM with a lot of layerings and attention to detail, ambient, classical/opera, jazz and funk music. I like details and warmth in my music.
I've been purchasing 150-200$ IEM for quite a while now and I'm facing a dilema at the moment. I own a pair of Dunu 1000 that I love (even though a little bit boomy and lacking WOW effect with mids) and I was planning on pairing them with an AMP, read Tralucent T1 as I heard they team very well. My source is an iPhone 4S and I trust it to be decent enough for me.

My question to you sound experts: should I go with the Tralucent T1 -or even a DAC/AMP combo when I listen to music on my laptop i.e. 20% of the time- or should I join the massdrop and sell my DNK when I receive the 2000J? What do you think would be the best eat for me an my taste?

Many thanks in advance.

I would say 2000J meets that particular line between critical and fun factor. I can listen to an Ane Brun track concreting on her vocals, the depth, detail in her voice. (which has very good weight btw) in the mids. Or, I can play some electronic music, still be saturated in detail and taken into the song. This is just from casual listening.

It was probably me who you read recommending the T1 amp with DN-1000.

While I haven't heard the pairing for a long time I would advise the 2000J upgrade over the amp.

2000J is higher performing than the T1 / DN-1000, especially in richness, detail and layering.

While the T1 is a nice-sounding amp, its gain is set way too high for practical volumes with very sensitive IEMs like the DN-1000/2000/2000J. You will not be able to get over the volume imbalance at reasonable listening volumes (~75 dBA), so I do not recommend the T1 as an amplifier. The iPhone 4S will be fine. If you would like a refined source for your iPhone, try an integrated mobile-friendly DAC/amp. There should be numerous members who can recommend a good one at a good price with good performance.

The biggest and most dramatic change for you would be to buy the DN-2000J in lieu of the DN-1000. Headphones/earphones changes are far more dramatic changes than any DAC/amp/cable change you can ever do. The DN-2000J will provide you with the bass control lacking in the DN-1000 and the resolution and transparency of the mids.
