DUNU DN-2000J -- More Than Evolution?

Nov 13, 2015 at 10:11 AM Post #1,396 of 2,123
As has already been stated in this and other threads Dunu just introduced an entire new line. Does anyone know when the new products will be available? I apologize if this has already been covered I'm late to this party. I intend to try some of the new versions when they are available.

Any thoughts on 2000J vs. Westone W40s? I don't dislike the W40s, just a little bored after a year. And over the ear really does not fit with how I use them. Any thoughts?

I have included a few words about the W4R in my DN-2000J review. Not many, but some. Both are good, in their own way. Overall, I prefer the DN-2000J more in the sum of its qualities, but that's just my personal preference.

Both have got a different tonality and different presentation and both have their strengths and weaknesses.

These iem's seem to fit my preferred sound signature (HD800 or similar sound). I've been looking at a backup iem for my SE846 and also for situations where I don't want to use my SE846 such as when I travel. I'd rather lose a backup iem. I could also use them as a gym or similar iem as well. I've had a loaner Dunu iem in the past (can't remember what they were) but I did like their build quality. I can't remember if I liked or disliked the cable but I didn't like that their plug was one of those 45 degrees ones but this one is 90 which is better.

How good is the isolation? I know the reviews states good isolation but how good is it? I don't expect Etymotic level isolation but similar to my SE846 isolation would suffice. Also does anyone know if they sell at retail stores in Taipei? I know they have an office there but I'm heading to Taipei in a few weeks and if they have a store I could stop by and give them a listen while I'm there.

Amazon has these at $335 fulfilled by amazon which looks like a decent price. It's a $20-30 premium over some places on ebay but those come from China or Taipei so it isn't that bad a premium for receiving it sooner than later.

Sound-signature-wise, I think you are going to be satisfied (though the DN-2000J's voice presentation is a little brighter). Resolution shouldn't disappoint you as well and what the DUNU makes better than the HD 800 is having a wide soundstage while having spatial depth (don't get me wrong, I love my Senn, but as its soundstage is so incredibly wide, it somehow lacks some depth in comparison although it has spatial extension).

Isolation is not as good as with completely sealed isolation monsters like the SE846, but still good for vented in-ears (according to InnerFidelity, our SE846 has got a broadband isolation of -34 dB whereas the DN-2000J isolates about -22 dB, about half as much).

Just want to mention that if you live outside of the U.S.A. this is probably one of the best shopping options.

I don't really consider the se846 to isolate that well however having less isolation is somewhat disappointing. I guess it can't be helped from their design. This is really tempting other than the isolation.

I'm not sensitive to a little brightness so that should be fine and soundstage is not something I care much about.

I use comply tips with d2kj an isolation is very good. Not quite as good as shure though.

That's interesting, I thought shures took 2nd place in terms of isolation. I would guess that you may not be getting a good fit?

It's tip dependant as well as the size of the SE846. I use the olive foam tips which don't go as deep as some other tips out there and also the size of the housing is larger than their previous lines. I owned one of their earlier iem lines in the SCL3 and 4 and those were much smaller and went deeper where isolation was a tad lower than Etymotic but still very good. While the isolation is good it isn't as good as what they were before. I also come from custom iem where the isolation is better. Fit is not an issue as I know by now if I am getting a good fit or not. I bought some spinfit tips so will see if they improve isolation.

I do still want to buy these iem's but for some reason I just can't pull the trigger. These have gotten pretty much nothing but rave reviews from opinions that I am familiar with too..I sent Dunu an email to see if they have retailers in Taipei. I'd like to try them out first since I'm not sure what the resale value of othese are.

I think the dn-200J is over hype. I will have to give it another listen when my repair unit returned. IMHO the dn-2000j is not suitable for all task or common use because the sound stage is just too small but i would like to keep this unit as the price is right.
