DUNU DN-2000J -- More Than Evolution?

May 6, 2015 at 4:10 PM Post #196 of 2,123
I cannot do a direct comparison to the DN-2000 at this moment in time because I don't have one. I can only state that, in my years of listening to all matter of IEMs, along with a direct comparison to the UERM, is that the DN-2000J is very, very good. Once I get the chance, I will compare the DN-2000J directly with the DN-2000, as well as the K3003 (reference filters).

A few notes on the sound, to address peoples' concerns:

  1. .
  2. Is there sibilance? Yes, but not much. It's more a bit of harshness, so that bit sits beyond the typical range of sibilance. Even so, I think it's controlled enough such that it crops up only now and then. Contrast this with the K3003, which is constantly teetering on the brink of sibilance (but strategically pulls back on the damage).
  3. I have not heard any T-PEOS product, so I cannot comment on them. I really have not been a fan of hybrids --- if people look at my posts, I generally do not have good things to say about the Astrotec hybrids, and even didn't exactly find the K3003 ultra-worthy (though I have grown to respect it greatly as a groundbreaker in multiple areas). Thus, I've really been more of an anti-hybrid evangelist, and have only found the Sony XBA-A3/Z5, as well as the current crop of DUNU hybrids (1000/2000) to be acceptable in overall performance and value.
  4.

since i disagree with both bold posts , i guess i will not really care what your thoughts are on the K3/dunu comparison

no offense , but i think you will probably upvote the dune/downvote the K3 more than they're worth

no offense though , i guess dunu will be a good copycat for those not wanting/being able to get the real thing (K3 that is)

me , i am 100% happy with my K3 , and i laugh at all the bad hype this iem had the previous years (then again , hype - good or bad -  is a very usual thing in here)

cheers

Very good post.  It really adds value to the discussion and clears up any questions about whether or not you care about the post.  Glad you  could contribute so much and clear up any doubt about your feelings regarding the review.  I know many were wondering.

Most important question: How is the weight? I hope the J is lighter than its predecessor. Also I hope that they won't be scratch-prone, dent-prone, and oil-smudge prone too!

You can add a pair of fins (stabilisers) to them

Here's a pic of the DN2000 fins.

They basically sit inside your Anti-Helix

  Do these fins hurt?

I mean, i never tried an in ear with fins, but i have been considering getting dn200 lately, but i do not understand how these fins will sit in the ear.

On my ears, no, the fins are quite comfortable, but I don't need those. I use my DN2000 without those fins. Those fins are ok, but for me, I don't need it.

No - they're actually surprisingly comfortable.  The fin tucks away inside your Anti-Helix and holds the IEM in place. They (the IEMs) have a little weight, so it just adds some support.  I don't have a pair of 2000s with me right now, and the 2000J haven't arrived yet.  I'll try to get you a photo (worn) when they do arrive.

Oh, that's interesting. I want to read that review ;) To compare to your DN-2000 review.

Oh - I'm hanging out to hear them as well

I really did enjoy the 2000's (although I slightly preferred the A83 for my own preferences).  I'm wondering this time if the nod will go to the 2000J ?

I'm currently writing review for Fiio X3 2nd generation, and I found wonderful pairing with DN2000. DN2000 with X3 2nd gen somehow have magical sound quality that is highly addictive to me. They make me want to listen music more and more. Music somehow sounds very appealing that I cannot really explain why :)  Those 2 are just nice and wonderful when paired together.

Oh I can see why they'd pair nicely Bram.  The X3ii (to me anyway) strikes a really nice mix between refinement and aggressiveness.  Not quite as refined as the X5 - but still has a little of the X1's 'fun factor'.
