Sounds as if the Sennheiser HD650 and Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro had a baby. Like a darker sounding and somewhat veiled version of the DT770 Pro.
So a completely different headphone than the current v-shaped DT 990. Sounds a bit like the Custom One Pro.

Looks quite cool actually, even though purple isn't really my colour.
I bought a pair of used Premium 600 ohm 990s.
I find the clamp too light and the bass weak.
I am wondering about new pads and a new metal headband to help...
Any info on best pads, and where to source band?
The clamping force is easy to fix, just bend the headband so the clamp is stronger, the weak clamp is one reason for possible loss of bass. Other reasons the DT 990 may lack bass is because the system not up to the task of driving the headphone or the amp doesn't have much bass presence.
Yeah I tried to adjust the clamping by twisting them, but just ended up making them look bent lol, and thats why I want a new metal band.
I know its not snug enough since they slide around on my head f I lie down etc...
I have amped them on 2 different Denon receivers, ans 2 different headphone amps.
Honestly the Old Denon 3801 powers them the best somehow, and almost as loud as my 36 OHM JVCs.
All the other amps power the JVCs like 5x louder.
I wonder if the previous owner bent them quite a bit.
The Old Denon receiver probably gives more power to higher-ohm headphones than lower ohm headphones which would explain them being powered the best. Maybe it's the only amp you have that gives them enough power.
I was thinking the same on both fronts actually.
The older Denon was rather pricey when I bought it.
$1200 or so I believe, plus its made in Japan as opposed to my slightly newer ( much cheaper!) one thats made in Korea.
Straight from my pc I have more sound than my ipod, and I can equalize some extra bottom end in while cutting 300 and 600hz out somewhat from the eq overshoot
I am looking at this amp right now...cheap, but specs seem good.
