I have the Premium 600 Ohms and assuming they are amped properly they are amazing for movies/games. They have more powerful bass than most open headphones I have heard, which is great for movies and games. Music is also really good. These headphones are amazing. The only negative is that the cable isn't removable.

What amp are you using w/ ur 990s? Also if the cable ever detached do you think Beyer would replace/repair the cable although it is nonremoveable?

I don't have the premiums. But if you can comfortably blow an extra $80 without hurting, go for it. I love this headset and only wish I'd gotten the premium.

Also, I imagine the "less clamp" claim is bs since the clamp will adjust to your head anyways. My pro's clamp has already broken in.

They probably would replace it if it was in warranty, and for a fee if it wasn't. I'm using the TEAC UD-H01 DAC/headphone amplifier with mine.

In a word, yes. Actually that's a definitive hell yes... 
 
For gaming immersion I honestly don't think you'll find anything better full stop let alone for the price. Same for movies. As these are open backed and good bass and clarity you will feel like you're there like no other.

When, after a few years your dt 990 pros may die (mine lasted 7 years) then you can use them as ear muffs for the Winter.

They are open,... I don't think they would make good ear muffs, but I'm no expert.

Purple Velour and padding would be legit.  I really liked the vintage DT990 thread where that guy added in red to his DT990s
 
Why do people buy the premiums over the less expensive pros?  Is the sound really that different?

Yep, Amazon has them for $29.  I bought one pair for my DT880 32 ohm.  Planning on getting another pair for my DT990 Pros.  The black looks much better IMHO and it wouldn't show dirt as easily.  Not sure why they don't ship them stock or offer the option for the same price.

I didn't take a pic of my DT880 32 ohm since I put the black pads on but, you can compare that to my DT880 Manufaktur with the black pads.  Also, you can compare my DT990 Manufaktur with black pads to my DT990 Pro still with the silver pads:

BTW, Moon Audio has the real leather headbands which are pretty sweet as well.  I'm planning on picking up a couple or 3 or 4
