I know that home amps seem to cost a lot of money, and portable amps seem to be kings in the low-budget market, but I still want to know: What amps can I use to sufficiently power my DT880's?

Two points for you a) dt880 need a tube amp b) with the budget you suggest - look at adverts. for used amps, rather than pay for a more cheaply-made new amp. The dt880's work beautifully with ASL mg head OTL MkIII. I saw one f.s. here some weeks ago, but know if it is still avail. (they can be bought new from Audio Advisor for $400 in the USA). But, best sound is obtained by getting old-stock tubes for it.

Yeah, used is an option. I can't find any tube amps used that fit my price range though, but neither can I find them new.

I've never looked into tubes, though...
