what kind of music do you plan to listen to ?

and those cans are by no means portable and require power so amplification is a must for either of those cans.

Sennheisers are apparently really good all-rounder headphones but I wouldnt suggest trying ay of the 5xx series, stick with the 600 or even 650, Doobooloo is selling a Senn 650 with Zu Mobius cable.

another good allrounder headphone is the Alessandro MS-2, it is tended more towards rock/jazz and less towards classical

While waiting for my Gilmore Lite amp, right now I am listening to my DT770-80 via my Monsoon PC system Headphone jack and they sound incredible. If you have any sort of amplification with your Pc you will be fine. But definitely it needs some amplification.

-It will most likely be unamped, or a very cheap amp
-Used mainly for computer use, lesser for portable electronics

The HD555 (or the 595 if you prefer).

IMHO the DT770/80 doesn't need a dedicated amp. I find my denon 5.1 receiver headphone circuit more than adequate to push it to very loud levels. IMHO midbass does clean up a little through an amp, but IMHO its not a must have

I own both an hd580 and a dt770. Sonically, even unamped and straight out the headphone out of my computer, the hd580 are in a different league than the dt770 IMHO. However, the dt770 are far from bad sounding, and the isolation they provide is great for drowning out my annoyingly loud case fan (and housemates).

A have a pair of HD590's and the DT770's failed to impress me. My father works radio marketing for a local radiocaster, and sometimes I drop by. I noticed that they were monitoring the recordings with the 770's, so I gave them a try. I busted out everything from Outcast to Bass test music. While their bass sounded better to me, I just wasn't impressed with the 770's. Sorry I can't go into detail and start busting out fancy words... but that was my gut feeling.
