I hate to disagree, but I disagree. The saleman went into the green screen after I said I wanted to pay $150, and came back very giddy saying he can go as low as $150. There is NOT a price cap on these.

I haven't been back to GC for a while, but I would have to agree-- I've given GC enough business and know enough of the guys there, that if I show them my receipt from before, and they pull it up in their system, then I don't believe I'll have a problem getting them for that price again.

I heard this a while back so it they may have changed it back, and I'm glad I'm wrong (the $150 price for these 'phones is perfect). And it may have been that at the store the person I heard this about from (it's in a post here somewhere, but I'm too lazy to find it) that the sales person didn't really want to give the person he was selling it to a break on the price.

Have you tried the 80 ohm version of the DT770 too, or just the 250 and the 600 ohm versions?

i've tried all of them. there is something about the basic DT770 sound that i just don't like. i find the V6/7506 to be much more listenable.

Well, I can get the DT770/80's for $60 out-of-pocket after factoring in the sale of my 7506's (I have an interested buyer) and my mileage check from work.

To all those who have posted so far, would it be a worthy use of the $60 to go from 7506 to DT770/80?

He11 yes IMHO.... unless you need a can that can reveal details in recording flaws (which the V6 does extremely well), or you need a portable can that is durable while folded. In either case the V6 has a slight edge.

Well, considering I do most of my listening at home, there will only be the rare occasions that I need the ability to fold them up, so while that's a positive, it's not necessary. And I don't really need something to reveal details in recording flaws, I'd rather have something detailed, but with enough "fun factor" built in that it sort of glosses over minor recording flaws.

I sold the 7506's over the weekend and grabbed the DT770/80's for $150 (well, $160 with tax) from GC (just showed them my receipt from the last time I bought them at GC and they price matched themselves), and with the Porta Corda and iPod mini, it's a pretty "big" sounding setup-- metal and hard rock like Dio sound real thick. While I loved the 7506 sound, the DT770/80's paired with this amp are very satisfying, and a good step up from the 7506's. Definitely worth the extra $60 and giving up the foldability factor.
