I'm pretty much about to pull the trigger on a pair of DT770 mostly to use with my laptop. I just really fancy a pair as an alternative to my Sennheiser HD 580.

Will the 80ohm be enough, or get the 250 ohm and buy a Fiio portable headphone amp for it?

I am no expert but it would seem that for laptop use and portable use the 80 Ohm version might be more appropriate. The 250 Ohm might not get loud enough on some un-amplified sources.

Thanks for your reply. Yep, I'm aware of that, hence the part of my question about the option of a Fiio portable headphone amp with the 250 ohm version. Can anyone shed any light?

Neither will be a good choice for a laptop.
Fiio's amps?...don't buy them

Interesting, I currently get quite a powerful sound from my HD580 plugged into my laptop, and they're 300ohm, so wouldn't an 80ohm work well?
Regarding Fiio, I kind of thought that the Kilimanjaro E11 was meant to be very good?

I don't have any experience with FiiO portables. But I own the FiiO E10K and am very pleased with it. I use it on my HD280 PROs and never go past 2 on the volume knob. And that is very loud.

Dunno. But I am incredibly happy with the FiiO. I could give a review but others have done a better job of that already.

Go for what you can drive. The 80ohm goes well with the fiio E11.

Thanks guys. Didn't realise there were any further replies till just now. Will probably buy the FiiO Kilimanjaro 2 (E11K)  which is cheap at £46 on amazon.

The 80 ohm is tuned differently than the other models and I hear is bass heavy. I'm looking into the 32 ohm since it is able to be driven without an amp and sounds similar to the 250 and 600 ohm.

I've also read the 250ohm is more balanced. The fiio has a bass boost too if they sound too light in bass.

I used to always get enough volume out of 80ohm DT770's out of mobile sources even, but they sound better with an amp..

They sound exactly the same. People tend to use different amps with the 250ohm which can alter the sound slightly.

Thanks for the advice guys. Well, I've decided to go for the 80ohm. It's a good compromise between the 32 and 250, plus I prefer the look of the grey velour cushions. The 32 ohm seems to have black leathery looking pads and is also a bit more expensive.

I've got this coming this week too
