I also have DT880 and DT990 and I love the DT880 but once I put on the DT990 I usually end up not taking them off for the rest of my listening session.

DT880 sounds so good but DT990 just rocks and oh I have the new DT880 and am very curious about the new DT990.

Anyone here have any new DT990's?

You guys are making a good point -- DT880 isn't really a rocker's headphone. In particular, it's not a "headbanger" can at all, in any sense of the word. It's more of a refined "audiophile sounding" can with airy bass and a wide soundstage. Beautiful for large-scale orchestral and such, not so hot for rock. In fact, one could conclude they have no bass with some guitar-rock recordings.

I have the new 990's & the old 880's & an aria. For me it is the 990's 90% of the time. The 880's are great, but the 990's are really engaging / involving & fun & I love the bass. 880's detail is amazing, but for me a little bit too much with the very also very detailed aria.

After many months I finally got hold of some 2005 32ohm 990's and so far I'm enjoying them more than the 880's - for my kind of music anyway (quite a lot of electronic stuff). As everyone says they're not as neutral as the 880's but perhaps a bit more lively. They both have their strengths and weaknesses (I prefer the 880's for female acoustic vocals) - still not sure which to keep!

I'll decide in a couple of weeks!

My first "serious" cans were the DT770s, which are sonically quite close to the 990s. A year later, I tried a friend's DT880 and was shocked about their qualities. Regarded my DT770 as kinda misinvestion since then. Don't make the similar mistake and get the "good stuff" right from the beginning.
