Hey guys. I'm new to the full size headphone market but I am very interested in buying one of these (or any other you would recommend). I don't even know what ohm I should get for the Dt-770. Just to give you a little background, I usually listen to music at my desk while working but would also like average portability for long flights and such. I am very interested in the comfort as I usually wear them for long periods of time. I mostly listen to alternative rock ranging from Blink-182 to nirvana to even a little bit heavier such as Disturbed or Korn. I do like bass but I am by no means a bass-head. If you could also give me an idea if I need an amp or not?? Sorry for the long post but I wanted to give as much detail as possible. Thanks in advance.

Both the DT 770 (32 ohm and 80 ohm) and ATH-M50 (~38 ohm) will be fine without an amp, you'll be pushing it with the 250 ohm version though.

Though I haven't heard the 770's, I have the m50's and 880's I would probably go for the 770's. Not to mention the fact that the m50's are uncomfortable as heck.

Good choice, but it's open, so no isolation for you nor others around you.

I'm probably not the best authority on these, as I base my recommendations on which set of cans are more recommended (I'm a noob to the hifi scene). But it seems like under $300 there aren't too many options. The m50's, 770's, AKG K550, or even Mad Dogs are all pretty decent.

Thanks I'll definitely check those other ones out. I'm a guy who does a lot of research before purchases like these so I probably won't make the move for another month or so. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks purpleangel. These look really nice! I'll add them to my list of candidates. I'm having my friend who is really into this stuff come and help me out later this week so the more to ask him about the better!
