DROP + GRELL OAE1

Through the photos shared by everyone, I feel the construction quality is low. The cup frame seems to be made of plastic and painted silver. The iron mesh is clumsily drawn. we don't seem to need cups. 55% of the drivers are located outside, inside the ear cushions. What will the remaining 45% in the cup create?

I have obsessive-compulsive disorder, I wouldn't be able to stand seeing the holes of the iron mesh going in the wrong direction like this.

Pretty sure the cups aren't plastic.

You can thank the dug out 5k 6k trench for that. Deep dip on 5k always pushes back the middle of the stage . The same issue I have with the SR325x with a 5k dip, snare drums, you can barely hear brush strokes and rimshots don't sound right. Vocal in that region get's attenuated and stays back in the mix. The good thing about the SR325x is the 5k dip exist not to widen the soundstage and they made it work damn well to be an engaging visceral sound. Dipping the 5k region to widen the stage which look like what's happening with the OAE1 is a tricky proposition. I did not pre-order the OAE1 but if I had, I would try to EQ it close to SR325x
I’ll try EQ when I’m at my PC. I’m used to the 660s2, ndh-30, and 620s tonality so I might need brain burn in. Also might get my old x2HR out to see how they compare

Got mine today. They sound like mid-bass-heavy consumer headphones to my ear, unfortunately. And I can't hear any kind of coherent sound stage or imaging. I used my Loki Max to turn down the mid-bass, and they improved a bit, but I still wouldn't call them great. I had high hopes given the pedigree, but initial listening has been disappointing. I wonder if further EQ tweaking or modding will make these shine, but I have a feeling I won't be keeping them.

The included balanced cable works just fine for me, and only needs to be plugged into one side. You can choose whichever side you prefer.

It's a unique design. I'm not sure of the availability of other single 2.5mm entry balanced cables, but I assume the vast majority on the market would be dual-ended 2.5mm entry.
Thanks… so then either my cable is defective or the headphones themselves are.

Seeing that you have the NDH 30, you will most likely and instantly notice what's going on in the midrange/vocal region on other phones.

I'm sure they're made of plastic, they painted the outside, the inside hasn't been painted yet, we can see the blurriness.

The "frame" is made out of plastic, grills are not.
Hope that helps.
The frame/basket where the driver is mounted is a critical component. Frame must be rigid and seeing voids on the structure is concerning, maybe the weirdness sound that's being said numerous times might be partly attributed to that. Are the earpads touching or laying on the pads?

Don't ask me. I'm still waiting for my pair to come.
I'm in Europe so.... I have to wait a bit longer.

I’m listening to Taylor Swift and it sounds like she’s singing from another room. On 4.4mm through a RU7. My first impression is these are very V shaped with a tremendous mid suck out.
I was listening to some classic jazz last night from the 50's and 60's. John Coltrane and Milt Jackson on Vibraphone. It sounded like Milt was way back in the studio, could barely hear him. Put on a pair of ZMF phones and things sounded "normal". I tried another Jazz album from the same era and same result. When listening to recordings from the 70's onward, this "feature" was no longer noticeable. Not sure what it is about the older recordings causing this effect....

Those old records have a very strong L/R stereo seperation, because panning was not a slider-adjustable effect. It was, instead, practically a switch.

On my sample, from our viewing perspective, the cable on the left here isn’t plugged in all the way, the cable on the right is:

Would like to use my 9' double entry 3.5 mm to balanced XLR cable I used with my Focal and the Amiron Home and questioning if these 3.5 female to 2.5 male adapters would fit or even work as the Grell can accept the single sided cable TRRS on either side for their balanced cable, may need a TRS TR adapter only, not sure.
Are the Grell 2.5mm dual entry jacks TRS or TRRS?
