Dr. Dre's Headphones: Chronically Good - TIME

are these things any good? I'm an IEM guy (UE-11's), looking to get a nice pair of full sized cans. Only ones I've had are sennheiser HD280's and loved them. Anywa I'm curious about the dre's beats headphones as I think they're all hype.

Also is there a holy grail of full sized cans? The ultrasone 9's seem like it to me.

I have listened to them. Very unimpressive, I was hoping for more from Monster (and Dre lol). The sound quality is okay, and the fit is nice, but really not worth $350. I was expecting good bass, but it seemed very uncontrolled, not tight at all. Also, the construction is really a big turn off (this coming from a guy with SR225s too lol). If I am dumping $350 into a pair of cans, I want to see some non-cheap-plastic materials.

I'm going to get these, but not at the $350.00 price range.

They are probably not WORTH $350 given that you have all your resources here to look at others. You have to understand, you're paying the premium for Monster, and most importantly the noise cancellation.

Outside of the SQ, I like these because I like the comfort, the build, and it's portable.

It also depends on what types of music you are listening to.

I've tried these at a local future shop around my house, and I was very unimpressed. The comfort was decent, and sound was ok, but the price to performance ratio was..... pretty bad. This is coming from a guy who spent less than 40 bucks on audio equipment!

Personally, due to the fact that I need to change batteries to make it work, I wouldn't buy one, even if it was offered at under 200 bucks.

What sounded good on these? I listened to a few Dre songs, some rock 'n roll, and punk. Strangely, the punk sounded the best on them... I actually felt that the rap sounded the worst of all the genres I tried on them (mainly because the poor bass quality).

If there is a holy grail of closed full sized cans, it would be the MDR-R10 by sony. I would think that its place would be pretty much undisputed, but I could be wrong.

You listened to the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" "bloated bass special" too...

I have already posted about them in one of the older threads, but here is an update.
In addition to no sound quality whatsoever (my cordless AKG K940 are better with the same amount of hiss) the funniest thing about the Beats is build quality. Or, to be more precise, the lack of it. The cable wears out in a month (in the jack area). The screws on the cups become loose and you need a special hex tool to tighten them.
Bought them on ebay (new and sealed, but no warranty) as a gift for a kid and consider it's immoral to resell them.
