so i am upgrading my home setup. i just ordered a beresford tc-7510 mk6 and my headphone choices are basically down to the goldring dr150 and the sennheiser hd580 (or 600 if i can find one cheap). I listen mostly to alt. and rock, but also a little of basically every other genre. right now i am leaning toward the dr150 because i found a pretty good deal on one. which one should i go with?

If you found the DR150 that's in the FS forums, purchase it now. I paid the same price for mine, but these were only "tested" by Lee @ cyro-parts.com

These are worth a $200+ pricetag.. really..

wow that is an amazing deal. i might just jump on that. that is better than the deal i found but the ones i found are also only about 2 hours use and 40 hours burn in w/ retail box. ill decide tonight if i can. so i assume your vote is for the dr150's?

I bought mine with 100 hours for $75 shipped. Included original box, and all.. headphones were in mint (9/10) condition. I "stole" these at this price..

Yes, +1 for the DR150's.

alright im leaning toward the DR150 still. do you think $75 for a 8/10 condition or like $100 for a 10/10 w/ original box would be a better deal?

I would take them for $75 in a heart beat. If I would have paid $200 for these headphones, I wouldn't feel bad. They are worth it..

How? Both headphones will respond positively from an amp.

Keep in mind that you are probably going to get more votes for the HD580s just because more people have heard them rather than the Docs (though I am pleased to see they are only winning by 1 vote currently

). I've only had a brief listening session with the Senns so I can't say and won't vote. But I continue to state the Goldrings are a terrific bang-for-the-buck hp.

@nick: not necessarily. a bright amp would make the dr150's pretty fatiguing.

the beresford tc-7510 is a DAC/amp. the reviews ive read are that it is pretty neutral, fast paced, very slightly on the warm side, and pretty accurate

Good luck with your purchase...

I had the opportunity to listen to both of these cans and IMO the DR150 sounds better than the HD580/600. Yes I know many here will not agree but so be it.

The one area the HD580/600 is a bit better is in confort. The DR150 clamp w/ quite a force. Another thing I would suggest is that you remove the cellophane tape that for some reason the manufacturer uses to hold a foam/fabric behind the screen. Heck remove it all together.

x2 what mrarroyo said. It takes about 20 minutes all together, to do both sides.

All you do is flip the foam inside the ear pad, find the 4 screws (one in each corner; also see the RIGHT hand side of the picture above where the 4 screws belong so you get an idea) and remove them. Grab and remove that "cloth" and replace the screws. Done!

yeah i read about that mod a couple weeks ago... sounds like it works quite well. i dont really have a problem with it clamping down... it wears in pretty well apparently.

@nick: what do you mean "flip the foam?" my only question about this mod was really just how to get at the screws
