But if you are a bass hog, you need another can. AKG 271s sounds great for claasical, jazz, pop, most rock, and is excellent for movie soundtracks.
The AKG 271s is not the headphone for the headbanger, metal head, punk rocker, house musuc, sort of dude or dudette.

But they shure deliver.its not bass weak at all after my taste.

I cant sitt still when im listening to uplifting trance with these phones so they shure is fun and great SQ, but i guess there is funnier phones out there if thats what you want, but you wont get bored fo sho

Speaking for the AKG 271s, the isolation is really fine. And sound doesn't leak. What is also cool is that as they are studio phones, when you take them off, there is a switch what turns them off as soon as they leave your head. Also, you can disconnect the cable and replace it if you want to upgrade or replace a damaged one.

I'll second that. +1

Ok, but is it comfortable enough to lie down with? Which amp would match well with the Zero DAC and 770? Little Dot MKV or Corda Arietta?

A900s or AKG271. The DT770 is way overrated. They have always sounded like mush to me. I have A900s and I like them. The AKG271 isolates better, sounds good, but I lean towards the A900.

cheers

I've never owned the K271, so I can't say anything about it.

I have owned the DT770 (Pro) for almost a year now, and on a whim, I bought the A900 here on Head-Fi because of the good things I've heard about it. Within a week, I sold it (again, here on Head-Fi) so that I could buy the DT770 '05.

I thought the soundstage on the A900 was its single greatest fault. Everything sounds congested and bloated. One review I read of it likened it to the feeling you have when you're stuffed up with a cold, and I can't think of a better description than that. Instrument seperation is poor and details get lost in the mix as a result. I had about a half dozen people in my office A-B the two and they all preferred the Beyers for this reason.

It's a decent headphone outside of that. Isolation is good with music playing, it doesn't leak sound, and it's very comfortable. I think, though, that it costs about twice as much as what it's worth, and maybe that's my reason for disliking it so much. It's priced on the same level as the DT770, but realistically, it can't hope to compare. It does nothing better, except possibly unamped performance which doesn't matter to me.

I think we are talking about the DT770 05' 250 ohm.

I was reading other reviews on the K271s and almost says they lack in the bass department, but perhaps this is not the case..

What I'm recommending is the DT770 '05, which is 250 ohm. I've never heard the DT770/80, so again, I won't say anything about it.

I have given both the 80 and 250 a go, amped. The 250 is marginally better. Still doesn't cut it for me. They both sound muddy to me.

My A900s I use at work with a Headroom MicroAmp and MicroDac. They can be used unamped quite successfully, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the improvement with the amp. Nice rig for work.

cheers

We originally were talking about the dt770 2005 models available on amazon.com right now for 113. They have an impedance of 250 Ohms. FWIR, they sound different compared to the black old style dt770 80 or 250 pro that some people might be talking or thinking about now. There are many versions of the dt770, so when talking about any dt770 it would be nice to specify which one exactly.

So from reading others reviews on these 3 phones I have inferred that:

DT770 '05: deep bass
A900: wide soundstage
K271: extremely detailed, but lacking in bass

I am late to the party, but IMHO the DT250 is a better beyer for this comparo than the DT770. Better balance, a less 'gimmicky' headphone, and much better competition for the K271.

Between the two (DT250 and K271) the DT250 has more bass and a rounder, warmer presentation. The K271 has warm mids but a nonwarm treble quality, sort of hard to describe. Either would be great for dorm headphones - pretty resilient and good isolation.
