Does the iPod Classic 160GB support FLAC? If not what other players with big storage would you recommend?

Sadly IPOD Classic cannot be rockboxed

Check out http://www.rockbox.org/ though.

Edit: IPOD supports ALAC(Apple Lossless Audio Codec) and FLAC can be converted to ALAC.

The iPod classic CAN be Rockboxed,...but it's still a work in progress. Funny thing is this info is available in OUR FORUM. Look before stating things as a fact. I stated a fact,...the iPod classic WILL play FLAC - and with Rockbox.

Me, I'm passing on the RB installation until it's stable enough. Otherwise it IS available,...

rockbox is alternative firmware for players. Its like the operating system of the player. I would just convert flac to apple lossless, its easier and more stable. You will not loose any audio quality.

Beaten to it.

Word of caution: Read all the FAQ in regards to the device you want to Rockbox.  Failure to do so can brick your device as I've done with a Sansa Clip v2.

At this point, that would be the prudent move with a Classic, agreed.

Really? How did you mange to do it? I've installed it on three Fuzes, two Clip+, and three Clip Zips with nary a hitch.

It was on a clip v2.  Just happen to be in the minority that during Rockbox was installing, it hung, and subsequently bricked.  Not common, but can and did happen.

How much storage is enough for you? The Cowon X7 is one, but it's more of a transportable player than portable....it's physically big in addition to the big 160GB storage.
