Does Squeezebox 3 do bit-perfect output?

I just bought a Sqeezebox today . . . I can't believe I've been messing around with and Airport Express when this existed all along. It's really wonderful.

My question is, is the above quote the definitive word on the bitperfect/digital volume control issue? I.e., is 100% volume not bitperfect when the volume control is enabled? If not, then obviously anything even slightly less than 100% isn't bitperfect. But if this is wrong, i.e., if 100% volume with the control enabled is indeed bitperfect despite this report to the contrary, to what level below 100% does the stream remain bitperfect? Where can we find a definitive answer, if the quote above isn't it?

I just found this post at HA. It is possible to losslessly lower the volume digitally to a certain point -- the question is, does the SB3 allow this?
