I tried to do a search of the forums for this info, but 580/650 seem to be bad keywords.. anyway. Anyone have any experience replacing the 580 cables with the 650? Do they fit? Is it an improvement?

thanks!
mike

I currently have my 650's cable on the 580s, and if there's a sonic improvment it's not significant. I still easily prefer the 600's w/stock cable to the 580s w/650 cable.

The improved build quality is great, as mentioned above. I am obsessively careful with my use & treatment of the 600s and 650s, so I use the 580s when I don't want to act like an overprotective parent. The sturdier cable helps in this application.

Seems like Senn cables share same connectors since the 80s. However, considering some intermittent problems mentioned here and there - imho it's best to leave the stock cables alone (unless they are the microphonic steel ones). To me the risk of intermittent connectors far outweigh potential sonic benefits from better cables, cause I'm sure you'll be plugging them on n off to ensure if you really hear such improvement.

The 650 cable IS the 580 cable but with a thicker rubber. Any change in sound is purely mind induced.

I'd personally prefer the thicker rubber, you know, for peace of mind

Maybe Clou Cable 212 Red Jaspis is the best decision?

Most people prefer the Zu Mobius with Moon Audio Silver Dragon, Cardas, and Equinox also being very popular. Then there is the new Headphile cable that has gotten a lot of positive comments.

Mike,

I'm very happy with the Oehlbach upgrade cable I got from Jan Meier. It has improved the HD 580s bass extension and produces sweeter, more musical mids. If you like warm sounding cables do check out the Oehlbach.

Oh BTW, the Oehlbach is much thicker than the stock cable and very reasonably priced at U$55.00. Click on the link below:

Oh yes, Jan Meier is a great guy to do business with. The cable was very well packaged and shipped promptly. I would not hesitate to order from him again.

Cheers,
Alex
