When i look at this site, it looks like only the 80GB were 5.5G.

Are there 30GB 5.5G's? And how do i identify them?

yes there are 5.5gen 30gb ipods

the 5th gens were 30 and 60 gb and the 5.5 gens were 80 and 30 gb.

Not sure how you would identify one online, the serial numbers apparently give you a clue as to whether they are 5th or 5.5 gen but as the backs can be swapped out I don't suppose that could definitively answer your question.

Have you got it in person or are you looking online for one?

But the seller tells me its a 30GB ending on V9M = 5.5G

He is selling a 30GB 5.5G (we think) a Denon ASD-1R Dock and a USB power adapter for $193 incl. shipping, good value?

When I got my 5th Gen 60gb there was 30 and 60 only... Then came 5.5 gen and I bought an 80gb. but IIRC the 30 was gone at the time of the 5.5 gen 80gb release. Then came the 5.5.1 160 gb and they then dropped the 60 gb. After that they became the "Classic" 80 and 160. Now everything is "Touch this and Touch that"

Yes it does. You can determine the Model by it's serial number. i have attached a link to apple support. Just ask the seller to provide you with the serial number. But if it ends with V9M it should be a 5.5G ipod Video. =)

There is also this link which particularly states that the 5.5G (or late 2006 ipod video) came out w/ 30GB. My U2 Ipod Video was a 30GB 5.5Gen

the 30 was not gone at the time of the 80gb 5.5 gen. Similiarly, while people NOW refer to the ipod 5th and 5.5gen as classics, it would be more appropriate to use the following conventions to save confusion, especially when that confusion is filled with inaccuracies along side the fact that whatever naming convention apple now go with, the name classic was born with the 6th gen 80 and 160gb ipods

30 and 60gb 5th gen
30 and 80 gb 5.5 gen
80 and 160 gb 6th gen (true ipod classic)
120 gb 7th gen or probably more accurate 6.5gen

Well, the 5.5G were referred to as such because they had a slight hardware upgrade from the original 5G (aka iPod Video) model.
